Our Pastors

Our Pastors

The Reverends Joshua and Amy Sutherlun were called as our co-pastors in July of 2013.

A note about Co-pastors:

There are so many facets to being a Pastor these days. There are so many various and diverse skills and gifts needed to minister to a congregation. We believe that no one has all of these gifts. Therefore, we work together as equals, with different gifts and therefore slightly different roles, as together we seek to meet the needs of the congregation. Each of us work part-time, in one job, in order to be the best “Pastor” we can be. Amy and I see co-pastoring as God’s design for our lives and ministry together and there is no better place to do it than here in the Texas hills.

Rev. Amy Poling Sutherlun

I grew up in Texas and New Mexico, the middle child of a 6th-generation pastor.  I briefly bucked the family ministry tradition by earning a Master’s Degree in Education at Austin College and teaching school in inner-city Dallas for 2 years.  However, I also did mission work in Malawi, Africa and served churches in Texas and Oklahoma before ultimately heading to seminary in Princeton, New Jersey.  Ordained pastoral ministry led me first to Huntington, West Virginia and then here to San Marcos, Texas.  For the last 16 years of this adventure, I’ve been accompanied by my husband, Joshua, and we are thrilled (frazzled/daunted/amused) to be the parents of Serena, Asher, Josiah, and Micah.  Our life is filled with laughter and laundry, and I don’t have much time for hobbies, but love reading a suspenseful novel, writing, travelling, and good tortillas. Rev. Joshua Sutherlun

I was born and raised in Cibolo, TX, just south of San Marcos. After high school, I went to Austin College, in Sherman, TX because they said they would let me play soccer.  While there, I met a girl, and I never looked back. We got married, attended Seminary together at Princeton, and spent 8 years together in ministry in Huntington, WV.  We have 4 West Virginian children and we wouldn’t have it any other way (unless we could have found someway to have them born in Texas). Moving to San Marcos has been a blessing as we seek to serve the Lord. I am passionate about anything that involves sport, the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, Dr. Pepper, and smoked meat.   Contact Joshua
